The Fugitives Bring the House Down

Last night (March 14) Vancouver band / spoken word troupe The Fugitives (Brendan McLeod, Barbara Adler, Mark Berube, and a man named Steve - sorry didn't get the last name) graced the Raving Poet's stage and put on a face-meltingly awesome show. This was easily, far and away, the best show that the RP's have ever brought to their stage. The Fugitives kicked out 60 minutes worth of musical awesomeness. Voice, guitars, accordion, and melodica all combined for a truly unique and outstanding performance. They blew the doors off the place and played a perfectly-timed set. For me, the hightlight of the night was McLeod's piece, Humanity is Awesome. A humorous and inspiring tribute to human ingenuity and accomplishment, the song effectively sums up the Fugitives' musical canvas: Hopeful, optimistic, loving, beautiful, and humorous. They had the crowd from the first note and didn't let up. Truly outstanding.

Was it really 60 minutes? Wow! It was so damn good that it seemed to fly by. I could easily have watched them for another hour.

I know, I could’ve as well. That’s why I thought that they played for a perfect length of time. Not too indulgent. They left everyone wanting more, which is what any good artist should do. I’d love to have them back for the Roar.
