Linkage Feb 1 2008
Some recently tripped upon links. Your mileage may vary on these ones. I don’t know…I just link to what I think is cool.
- The new T Incorporated. Fantastic redesign of Thomas Watson’s website. Deceptively simple and very compelling. A lot of information is presented with amazing simplicity and coherence. He’s integrated things like Twitter status and flickr photos flawlessly. Inspiring.
- The website for Old Spice aftershave is pretty entertaining. Of course it’s skued towards men, but super-cool nonetheless with its cheeky, 100% Flash interface. Take the Experience Test and let Bruce Campbell tell you what’s really important in life. I got an unimpressive and embarrassing 66.
- Textpattern 4.0.6 announced. In my opinion, Textpattern is the best content management system out there. The latest version is set for release next week, but you can download a release candidate at this link.
- Seven Medical Myths. A nice list of old wives tales and widely-circulated health-related falsehoods. Old saws like “drink 8 glasses of water a day” and “we only use 10% of our brains” are here debunked. For the skeptics out there, The Fallacy Files are a good read, and as always, the Skeptical Inquirer (my favorite magazine ever) is compelling.
- Iron Maiden’s Live After Death released on DVD, Feb 4, 2008. Live After Death is probably my all-time favorite live album. The footage from the long beach shows has been unavailable for years, so it’ll be nice to see this again. Tons of extras and special features as well. Order from Amazon.ca here.
- Wacky Packages Flashback Series Announced. Awesome! The new series have been great, but it’ll be awesome to see some of the old-school stickers again. Fond, fond memories of my youth. I’ve placed my order. You?
- Some web news for the Raving Poets out there: Kelly Shepherd has a brand new site featuring samples of his elegant and insightful poetry and prose; Laurie MacFayden has created a cool little blog with thoughts, poems, and paintings; Mary Pinkoski (winner of the 2008 CBC Edmonton Poetry Face Off) has a carved a out a little slice of the ‘net to showcase her formidable poetic storytelling prowess. On a related note, notoriously honest iconoclast Corey Hamilton has nuked his notoriously honest weblog. No official reasons given, but on the QT I heard he was involved with importing something called Human Horn. Don’t ask me man, I just report this shit. Corey’s still on the web, though. Check him out at Dramatic Situations.

A sad, sorry 58 for me Mike…

58? Not bad. That test isn’t easy as it seems, actually. Bruce Campbell’s video is the best, though. “If you have it, you don’t need it.” Classic.

* Wharton’s site is nice, but I’m not a fan of sites that have all of that information at bottom, below the fold, rather than on a sidebar or top-bar.
* I also came in with a mediocre 66% on the Old Spice test.
* Thanks for pointing our Laurie’s site. I’ll have to add the feed to my reader.
