The Edmonton Poetry Brawl
What am I doing when I’m not blogging? That’s easy. Just livin’ man, just livin. It’s been a while since I cracked open the hood on this here website. Life’s been a wee bit on the crazy side as of late. Car accidents, late night lawn mowing, taxi-ing around the step daughter unit, family gatherings, births, mishaps, festival organizing, anniversaries (mine), and no small amount of plain old lackadaisical discombobulation. Somehow, blogging got shuffled to the bottom of the pile. It’s not like I’m not writing, though. I’m focused on the compilation of a new manuscript, one that I hope will find a nice home on your shelf one day. Stay tuned for more.
I’ve been busy as one of the organizers behind The Edmonton Poetry Festival. It’s a three-day blowout celebration of verse held in downtown E-Town. It runs this weekend – September 11 to 13, 2008. Check out the schedule here. I’m performing on Friday night at The ARTery, 9535 Jasper Avenue, 7:00pm. It’s a night of experimental poetry so be prepared for anything. I hear there’s going to be a wedding cake. And a man in a dress (not me). I’ll be reading some edgier, more “out there” work. I’m very humbled to be reading with Doug Barbour and Christian Bök, both real-life poetic legends. Also appearing are local heroes Nico Rogers, Joel Katelnikoff, Christine Stewart, Jeff Carpenter, and Glenn Robson. I’m also emceeing the festival finale on Saturday night – September 13, 2008 – at the Artery, 7:00pm. Me and my longtime pals in the Raving Poets Band will be shaking it up real good. It’s been a while since we’ve rocked faces – our last gig was in May – so it’ll be a “reunion” of sorts. It always feel like coming home when I step on the stage with the boys.
There are tons of great events happening and if you’ve got a poetic bent, check them out.
In other news, I need a vacation. I’m thinking Ellesmere Island. Anyone have a line on Ellesmere Island? Anyone up for it? Get in touch.
