Moe Clark and Guests at The Artery This Friday

This Friday, I’m participating in a really cool event and I want to spread the word. A few months back, I hosted a little gig sponsored by the Writers Guild of Alberta. That event featured Metis spoken-word artist and poet Moe Clark. If you’ve ever seen this girl live, you know what I’m talking about when I say that she’s a killer performer. I’ve never heard anything like her, actually. I bought her CD at the gig and it’s quite good – a little teaser for her amazing live performances.

Good thing for Edmonton, Moe is coming back for a one-night performance. Friday November 13, 2009 at Edmonton’s grungiest, hipster-friendly art joint, The Artery (9535 Jasper Avenue). Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm. This event will be emceed by yours truly. The night begins with an open mic segment – always interesting, and always the most diverse part of any poetry event. I’m not sure how many spaces there’ll be, but if you’ve got a poem to crush out, best to show up early to get a spot on the list. Tickets are $12.00 at the door.

Before Moe hits the stage, we’ll hear from local poetesses Kathy Fisher and Rebecca Schellenberg. Both are quirky and exciting performers – both veterans of the Raving Poets Stage. Kathy likes to think in terms of skin and mortality; Rebecca can’t write a poem without food in it.

Moe will blow up the microphone a little later in the evening, and as a bonus, we’ll see the premiere of her new video poem, Intersecting Circles. Here’s a PDF promo poster for the event, if you’re into such things (check it out, actually. Nice design by Moe herself). Hope to see you down there.
