Comings and Goings; Happenings

It's been a busy May. The Rasp and the Wine is looking smashing and is ready to launch, The Roar is beginning to take shape, and my personal calendar is filling up – THREE weddings to attend this summer/fall and I am emceeing one of them. Crazy. There are so many things running through my head that I hardly know what to do first.

This level of activity, while self made, is somewhat unwelcome. I like being busy to a point, but when it starts to detract from my writing and poetry, I get resentful – even if I have brought it about myself. A weird thing, I know, but true of all of us, yes?

I'm slowly working towards gathering a manuscript for publication. It's a dream of mine, to be published by someone who doesn't know me from Adam. It's that outside, impartial validation that is important. It is nice to know that someone other than your friends and acquaintances like your work. I've got a few submissions to prepare as a test run, so we'll see how that goes.

Getting back to The Roar, it seems that I'll be one of the headliners at The Roar Crawl, which is a literary pub crawl to take place on September 21, 2006 in the downtown area of Edmonton. It's a six venue crawl with many hot readers lined up. I'll be doing a fifteen or twenty minute set. I'm really stoked about this because I so rarely get a chance to stretch out in a reading. I'm used to reading one poem at a time. I'm also used to being the MC and holder of the night – no small things, I assure you. I'm really pumped about The Roar in general.

That's about all I got right now. More news to follow.
